In a world of media and information overload and disinformation, it becomes harder and harder to recognise a reliable medium. In order for the public to make informed decisions, it is crucial that they can differentiate between factual credible information and biased views or, in the worst case, blatant disinformation they are being exposed to. However, it is also important for journalists themselves to have media literacy and for newsrooms to establish a culture of fact-checking on the one hand and educating audiences on the other hand.
In this roundtable conversation, we will dive into these two sides of the coin of news literacy: fact-checking on the one hand and education on the other hand – discussing how they come together and how journalists can benefit from it.
