Since 2017, the hashtag #MeToo has become one of the most powerful buzzwords in the fight against gender injustice on social media. Since then, more and more cases have come to light and are being discussed ever more loudly and controversially. The support for people, especially women, who speak publicly about abuse has grown stronger, but the headwinds have also become rougher. Without the revelations of courageous journalists like Juliane Löffler, many abuses would never come to light and those affected would continue to remain silent out of fear.

In her book, the SPIEGEL journalist takes us behind the scenes of her journalistic work: she explains how confidential conversations about abuse of power and sexualized violence take place and what it means to dare to go public with accusations against powerful men. Löffler analyzes current debates, allows prominent female actors to have their say and brings together the structures and mechanisms behind the individual revelations into a grand narrative. In doing so, she makes it clear how the #MeToo debate has changed our social discourse and shows why systems of abuse of power persist in Germany to this day.

The book will be published by Deutsche Verlags-Anstalt on October 23, 2024 and will celebrate its premiere at Publix that evening. The discussion will be moderated by Salwa Houmsi.
